UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed one of the three people killed in a crash on Interstate 26 was a 1-year-old child.
According to a crash report from THP, a Dodge Dakota was traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-26 in the number one lane at 7:24 p.m.
A Toyota CHR was traveling westbound in the same lane, and the two vehicles collided head-on near the 38 mile marker.
Both drivers and the 1-year-old passenger in the Toyota were killed.
The Toyota was driven by 23-year-old Anthony Owens of Erwin.
The 1-year-old passenger was identified as Richard Owens.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as 42-year-old Tina Marshall of Jonesborough.
Marshall was not wearing her seatbelt, and both alcohol and drug tests on her have been requested while the investigation continues.
The interstate was shut down at the mile marker for several hours and closed down Exit 40 on I-26.
The crash is still under investigation.
