You will be giving to the important mission at St. Jude children’s research hospital.
The mission means so much to a little boy named Ethan.
Five-year-old Ethan loves his sisters and just living life.
“He just likes to be an everyday kid. That’s where we was, that’s where we would like to get back to,” says Ethan’s father.
Last November, Ethan got what any other five-year-old would get after bumping his shin… a bruise. But this one wouldn’t go away.
“We had been to urgent care and the bruise had spread from his knee down to his foot and then it started to spread to the other leg and I had just questioned that was abnormal. They thought that wasn’t anything to worry about. He started to have swelling of his eyelids. They couldn’t really determine any cause,” says Ethan’s mother.
Ultimately, a simple blood test gave Ethan’s pediatrician the answer no parent wants to hear.
“Results have come back, there are overwhelming signs it’s going to be Leukemia. I told her I have my suitcase in the car, where do you want us to go? I want to go to the best place,”
Ethan ended up at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, almost six hours away from his home in Missouri. The Diagnosis: Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML. Only about 500 children in the U.S. are diagnosed each year. St. Jude researchers have pioneered the way the world treats leukemia and use new forms of treatment to improve the outcome of AML. The course for Ethan’s aggressive treatment plan, six to eight months.
“It just turns your life upside down, that’s what’s good about this place, you don’t have to worry about the money, they furnish you a place to stay, they do everything, that’s one thing you don’t have to worry about yourself. Worry about your son and getting him well. It’s just been a blessing it really has. Our family over the years has given to St. Jude, we’ve helped with fundraisers little things.”
“To me, I can’t imagine another place that would be more worthy of someone’s thought, time donation, effort to help than this right now.”
And they can’t imagine another place that gives them more hope for Ethan than St. Jude.
“We’re going to beat this ain’t we mom.”
