GRAY, TN (WJHL)- Hands On! Regional Museum is now open as Hands On Discovery Center at the Gray Fossil Site.

“I think what people are going to find is a pretty stark departure from what was downtown, an upgrade into an all ages hands-on STEM-oriented facility,” Marquart said.

A couple of weeks ago we showed you a live look inside as the former Hands On! Regional Museum moved from downtown Johnson City to the Gray Fossil Site. Since then, crews have installed dozens of brand new exhibits. Now it’s open as “Hands On Discovery Center” with 12,000 square feet of new discoveries to make.

“People will find kind of a mix of some of our old favorites as well as mostly new content, so about 80 percent of the content here is brand new,” Executive Director Andy Marquart said.

Marquart said it’s going to be a whole new experience from the moment you arrive.

“They’re going to have easy parking, they’re going to have ADA accessibility throughout the museum, all the accoutrements that we struggled with the downtown become available day one here in Gray,” Marquart said.

He said they are still working on some last minute adjustments but it is now open at the Gray Fossil site. The official grand opening is June 14th.
