The Greene County Sheriff’s Office held a proactive safety seminar on Saturday for faith based organizations.
More than 150 people from Greene County attended the event downtown, which focused on how local churches can set up a security system for their facility.
The presentation showed efficient ways for church members to prepare for emergencies, it also had demonstrations of helpful security tools like cameras and door locks.
Sheriff Pat Hankins of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said this is the second year they have held the event. He said after the church shooting in Nashville last year, many of the churches in Greeneville started reaching out to his office.
“We had a lot of people calling the department wanting us to come out and look at their church and we still do that but with 200 churches in Greene County we can make it to all of them so we wanted to have one big seminar for everyone to come out,” Hankins said.
While the seminar displayed useful security tools they also showed how to make these tools for churches to secure their facility on a lower budget. \
