Funeral arrangements have been made for a Virginia State Police trooper who was killed in the line of duty.
Trooper Lucas B. Dowell will be laid to rest Saturday in his hometown of Chilhowie.
Dowell was shot and killed Monday during a drug raid in Cumberland County.
Visitation will be held Friday at Chilhowie Christian Church at 172 Apple Valley Road from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral will take place at the church this Saturday at 11 a.m.
Virginia State Police says the public is welcome to attend the visitation and funeral.
Dowell will be buried at the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.
VSP says condolences should be sent to the VSP Public Relations Office at P.O. Box 27472, Richmond, Virginia 23261. They can also be made online.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Virginia State Police Association – Emergency Relief Fund (ERF). Contributions can be made online. Please note in the payment reference section, “in memory of” or “in honor of Lucas Dowell.”
