Four arrested in Kingsport drug investigation


Four people are facing charges after police searched a Kingsport home Thursday morning. 

The Kingsport Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 814 Myrtle Street around 11:30 a.m. Earlier Thursday, the department confirmed that flash bangs were used by officers executing the warrant.

A News Channel 11 viewer submitted video showing police officers during the raid. 

KPD arrested Sanford Hodge Jr, Gunnar L. Smith, Erwin O. Lewis, and Whalen M. Carpenter. 

Police say the arrests were made as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. 

All four suspects were charged with sale and delivery of over 26 grams of crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of a city park, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance use or distribution, and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.

Hodge, Lewis, and Carpenter were also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

All four suspects are in Kingsport City Jail on $50,000 bond.
