BRISTOL, TN/VA (WJHL) – Police have released new information about the man at the center of a missing persons investigation.
Bristol, Virginia police tell us 36-year-old Jeffrey Burchett is now considered a missing person.
Investigators released his photo Monday.
Burchett is known to rummage through a dumpster at the Bristol, Tennessee Salvation Army.
That led to a search of a Bristol, Virginia landfill, but Burchett is still missing.
That Salvation Army is where he was reportedly last seen.
Items left behind included a backpack and a bicycle.
Monday night – police confirmed those items belong to Burchett.
Bristol, Virginia police have taken over this investigation as of Monday night because that’s where Burchett last had an address.
His family tells News Channel 11’s Justin Soto that Burchett is a good father and they just want to know where he is and if he’s okay.
“I miss him and I want him to be here,” Burchett’s 11-year-old daughter Elizabeth said.
His two other children and their mother Chantel Shores – echo those concerns.
“We’re just trying to figure out what happened to him,” Shores said.
It’s been a while since Shores last heard from him.
“The last message I got from him was September the 20th at 1:56 in the morning,” Shores said.
Police searched for hours at the Bristol, Virginia landfill after a witness reportedly heard screaming from the dumpster and items were left behind – no signs of Burchett.
“Everything runs through your head. If he did get put into the trash truck, did he climb out along the way, is he laying in a ditch somewhere,” Shores said.
His family is holding on to hope.
“I’m hoping for the best. I’m hoping we find him alive for the kid’s sake, but we just want closure to find out where he’s at,” Shores said.
