JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Police say they arrested three armed robbery suspects on Wednesday at ETSU’s Buc Ridge apartments.
Johnson City police have charged Kendrick Holland and Michael Robinson, both of Knoxville, and Daylan Taylor of Johnson City with aggravated robbery.
Officers responded around noon to an armed robbery at 2020 Indian Ridge Road, where a Postal Service employee reported that two men wearing masks approached their vehicle while the employee was delivering mail, according to the police department.
Police say the men displayed handguns and demanded a master key used to access locked mailboxes before fleeing in a white Buick sedan.
After reviewing surveillance camera video, investigators determined the three suspects were involved in the incident.
The alleged robbery prompted ETSU to send out an alert warning people at Buc Ridge to shelter in place.
The alert was issued at 12:58 p.m. It stated the suspects from the alleged armed robbery were “believed to be near Buc Ridge.” At 2:04 p.m., a second alert was issued stating that all suspects were in custody and the status had been changed to “all clear.”
People had been asked to avoid the Buc Ridge area, remain vigilant and report any unusual activity to public safety. The alert stated there was a shelter-in-place effective for Buc Ridge until the second alert was issued.
ETSU provided the following statement to News Channel 11 in response to an inquiry regarding the situation:
“Earlier today, an armed robbery occurred near campus and the suspects were tracked to the Buc Ridge area. Law enforcement and public safety officials arrived on the scene quickly, and we issued a warning to campus that included advising people to avoid the area. Those already in the vicinity were directed to shelter in place. At 2:04 p.m., we sent out an all-clear message. We have no reason to believe there is any immediate threat to campus as a result of this situation. Because this is an active case being led by the Johnson City Police Department, we cannot offer further comment.”
