KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)- Eastman Chemical Company announced Wednesday what they are calling a breakthrough innovation to address the world’s waste problem.
Eastman officials said their new ‘Carbon Renewal Technology’ is capable of recycling some of the most complex waste.
Right now, many recycling centers are only accepting basic plastic.
More complex plastics like milk jugs and detergent bottles had previously been shipped to Asia, but they are no longer accepting them.
Eastman says they have completed pilot tests of the technology at the Kingsport site and are planning commercial production later this year.
