DRESSED TO IMPRESS: Bristol’s State Street sign receives facelift

Local

After many years, the popular sign that straddles the Tennessee/Virginia state line has finally received a facelift.

The Bristol TN/VA sign, on State Street, has been repaired with 1,300 LED bulbs. It was officially turned on for the public to view Friday night.

City officials say the bulbs should “last longer and reduce the need for frequent changes.”

The sign was originally donated to the cities in 1910 by Bristol Gas and Electric Company and set atop the Interstate Hardware Company building.

In 1915, it was moved to its current location. The sign was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

City officials are encouraging people to come out and enjoy the downtown scene, and view “the lady dressed in all her glorious new light.”
