Dollywood announces expansion; “Wildwood Grove” to feature 11 new themed experiences

Dollywood announces the largest expansion in the park’s 33-year history with the addition of “Wildwood Grove”.

Dolly Parton says the main reason for the addition is “to bring families closer together”.

Dollywood President Craig Ross says the expansion will feature 11 different themed experiences ranging from a family roller coaster to a secret toddler play area.

It’s Dollywood theme park’s largest capital investment ever — a $37 million investment. It’s part of the Dollywood Company’s 2013 commitment of $300 million in investments.

“I’ve told you before about how I’d let my imagination roam free when I’d be out exploring in the hills around our home in the Smoky Mountains,” Parton said. “I’d pretend that the frogs and butterflies were my friends. I’d imagine about what it’d be like to fly with a dragonfly or to follow a bear family through the woods. Now all these things are coming true for our guests to experience in Wildwood Grove; it may be my new favorite part of Dollywood!

It will be the first new area added to Dollywood since the Wilderness Pass in 2008. And according to park officials, it will be the next to Dollywood’s Timber Canyon.

The expansion’s main feature, the ‘Wildwood Tree’, features a natural stage for performances and it’s leaves are colorful butterflies that come to life in a magical kaleidoscope after the sun sets.

“This area is going to give families a place to explore, play and imagine together—but more importantly—it’s a place where they can spend more time together,” she explained. “I believe everyone has a song in their heart that needs to be set free. Wildwood Grove will be a place where families can learn together about what their heart song truly is.”

“Hidden Hollow” features net towers and suspended bridges for children to play as well as a secret toddler area for younger children to enjoy.

Wildwood Grove will also have a new roller coaster taking riders on a flight through the mountains with “The DragonFlier”.

According to park officials, the Wildwood Grove expansion will be ready next year.

The six new ride attractions include:

The Dragonflier
Black Bear Trail
Sycamore Swing
Treetop Towe
The Mad Mockingbird
Frogs and Fireflies
