The names are out for the 2019, and beyond, hurricane season and the Atlantic Ocean may see a familiar name to us here in east Tennessee.
The National Hurricane Center, based out of Miami, issues names well in advance for the upcoming tropical storm seasons in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
In 2019, Andrea, Barry, Chantal and Dorian will be the first four named storms in the Atlantic.
But its the following year that has quite a familiar name to Tennesseans.
In 2020, the first four named storms in the Atlantic will be Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal and… Dolly.
According to the National Hurricane Center website, all names are maintained and updated through a procedure by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization.
The lists are used in rotation and recycled every 6 years. The only time a list is changed, is if a storm is so deadly or costly that future use of the name would be inappropriate.
