Dickenson Co. Sheriff’s Office seeks public’s help after woman’s death


DICKENSON COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death following a disturbance at the Lower Twin Campground Saturday.

According to a press release, deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at the campground around 1:40 a.m. Saturday.

The release said the initial call was of a woman screaming and more calls later came in.

Reports said the women had left the area with a man from the campground.

A male subject later called 911 saying his girlfriend had just jumped out of his vehicle and that she was bleeding.

Police determined the two were involved in the previous report of a woman screaming at the campground.

The man told dispatchers that he was taking the women to the hospital.

The release said that deputies soon found a vehicle matching the description of the one reported from the campground. Police said after initiating a traffic stop – they found a woman not breathing and with no pulse.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as 30-year-old April Dunford of Tazewell County, Virginia.

We’re told this is still under investigation.
