ELIZABETHTON, TN (WHJL) — A deal has been reached that would keep the Minnesota Twins baseball team in Elizabethton.
That’s according to Elizabethton Mayor Curt Alexander who told News Channel 11 the draft agreement was reached Friday morning.
Elizabethton City Council must approve the agreement before it’s final. A vote is set for Thursday night.
Under the proposed agreement, Elizabethton would spend $1.5 million to upgrade Joe O’Brien field, the home of the Elizabethton Twins.
The Minnesota Twins would contribute $800,000 toward the upgrades, Alexander said.
The contract would last five years with the option to renegotiate at the end of that period.
The deal comes after two years of negotiations, Alexander said.
