David Crockett student critically injured in Washington Co. head-on collision

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL)- One person was sent to the hospital with critical injuries following a head-on collision April 7.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, two vehicles were traveling on Dry Creek Road near Firetower Road when they met ‘head on in a curve’.

THP reports a Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 17-year-old Zoe Shipley of Jonesborough, “left their lane and the lane of the Toyota Camry.”

Shipley was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center and was reported to be in critical condition.

The driver of the Camry, 55-year-old James Butler of Johnson City, was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center with minor injuries.

Officials with Washington County, Tennessee schools confirmed that Shipley is a student at David Crockett High School. Officials said the principal and some school board members had been to the hospital to visit her.

*THP corrected their initial report, changing the age of Zoe Shipley from 18 years-old, to 17-years-old. The above article now reflects that change.
