Southwest Virginia native Cody Weddle is back in South America to cover Venezuela’s ongoing political crisis after he was detained and thrown out of the country earlier this year.
According to WPLG in Florida, Weddle is now in Bogotá, Colombia where he will report on Venezuelan affairs.
Back in March, the former WJHL intern was detained and interrogated by Venezuelan military agents before being deported from the country. He returned to the U.S. following his release.
“The crisis in Venezuela has reached such a magnitude that its effects are seen across the region, especially in neighboring Colombia.” Weddle told WPLG. “We’ll be covering the unprecedented mass migration of Venezuelans from Colombia while continuing to report on the unfolding political standoff using our contacts on the ground in Venezuela.”
