It’s hard to believe it’s already that time of year, but the winter season is just around the corner.
The City of Kingsport spent Friday preparing for the winter season. Kingsport’s Public Works Department inspected the city’s snowplows and salt spreaders.
Ronnie Hammonds, street sanitation manager, said the department added four more trucks this year for a total of 35.
He said these inspections are important because once the winter weather does hit the department won’t have a lot of time.
“It helps us to be sure that all of our equipment is in good order, that all of our plows are on,” Hammonds said. “That we have a set of chains for each truck, that our salt spreaders are working, that our lights are working, so it’s a good thing to bring the guys awareness to what they will be facing in the next few months.”
He said the department already has thirty-eight hundred tons of salt on hand.
