Central Baptist Church in Johnson City celebrated 150 years with a food packing event Saturday.
More than 500 volunteers gathered at Carver’s Recreation Center Saturday morning in Johnson City.
Coordinator Debbie Taylor said volunteers packed 150,000 meals to give to Second Harvest Food Bank to distribute the meals to families in need.
“It’s dehydrated meals they are packed in bags, distributed through Second Harvest to families, it’s re-hydrated and could feed a whole family,” Taylor said.
We’re told several organizations and business have stepped up with donations for the food supplies, which cost about $37,000.
