Casino legislation in Virginia varies in both House and Senate

BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) — Devlopments in the proposal  to open a planned resort and casino in Bristol, Virginia.

Developers want to open the casino in the abandoned Bristol Mall on Gate City Highway.

Both the House and the Senate in Virginia has passed bills to study the impact of legalizing casino-style gambling.

But the versions differ greatly.

The latest Virginia Senate version is in line with project propsed by Bristol lawmakers, but would postpone a vote until next year after a comprehensive study is complete.

Casino developers told News Channel 11 in a statement, “We don’t want to anticipate the outcome of the General Assembly session and so the appropriate time to discuss next steps is following session — when he have more certainty on what the landscape looks like.”
