A vote to do an request for a proposal (RFP) to interview candidates to conduct an independent study was postponed at a Carter County School Board Meeting on Tuesday night.

The proposal is aimed at bringing an independent group to look at enrollment, start community focus groups and compile information on the school system. That group would then give the school board two to three options on how to save money and stay within their budget, which could mean school consolidation.

The vote was tabled to give the school board time to find grant money to cover the expenses.

The school board also revealed that they recieved new Basic Education Program funding, over $800,000. Three hundred seventy-five thousand will go to mandated teacher raises.

There will be a workshop focused on how to work in the additional dollars to the budget next Thursday, April 25 at 4:30 pm.
