Carter Co. man gets 15 years for aggravated child abuse, theft of police dog

A Carter County man received 15 years and three years probation in a plea deal for aggravated abuse, aggravated child neglect, aggravated burglary and theft of property 10,000 or more. 

Corey Scalf, 21, appeared in Carter County Criminal Court on Wednesday, Oct. 17, for harassment charges involving a child abuse, theft of a police dog and harassment. 

According to court documents, the harassment charge was dismissed. Scalf received three years probation for stealing a police dog and received the 15 years for child abuse and child neglect. 

In 2018, Scalf was charged with neglect and abuse of a one-year-old. 

Scalf was charged with a felony theft in 2017 involving the theft of a police dog.
