BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) — Jim McGlothlin and Clyde Stacy, founders of the proposed Bristol Resort and Casino project have penned an open letter to the citizens of Bristol, Virginia and the region.

The letter titled “Why We Are Betting on Bristol.” outlines their shared view of the development of the Bristol Mall into the proposed venture.

The letter states that the vacant mall would become a major resort with over a million square feet of space. It would include up to a 1,000-room hotel, 100,00 square feet of a children’s, family entertainment and adventure center, a large convention center with an all-purpose area of 100,00-square feet, a spa, live entertainment venue and 50 shops and restaurants.

The letter goes onto say in part, “Yes, it would also house a casino in an area comprising only approximately 10% of the total space… For the overall project to work we believe it must have a casino, but the overall project brings many significant benefits to our community.”

The total investment for the development will be made by McGlothlin and Stacy and will not be a taxpayer-funded project, the letter goes onto state.

“We have lived in this area our entire lifetime, our families live here, and we are committed to this community and to this region,” both noted. “We are totally committed to operating this business in a moral and legal manner with the intention of providing a better life for all who are affiliated with this development, either as an employee or as a customer.”
