BOE invites public to examine proposed textbooks that include religion

The Sullivan County School Board is inviting the public to examine proposed social studies textbooks next week during a special viewing.

The meeting will take place on Monday, April 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Akard Service Center, located at Mount Area Drive in Bristol, Tennessee.

Tuesday night, the Sullivan County Board of Education voted 4-2 to move forward with a seventh-grade textbook blanket adoption, including two books that cover religion.

The school board goes through a textbook adoption process every year and later selects which textbook students will be using.
