The “Voice of the Vols” is coming to Elizabethton next month.
Officials with the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County confirm that longtime University of Tennessee sports announcer Bob Kesling will speaking on Thursday, May 23, starting at 6 p.m. at the club for the annual Steak ‘n’ Burger celebration.
According to the bio provided by the club, “Kesling got his start with the Vols as a walk-on fullback on the 1972 freshman football team, but his broadcasting career began shortly thereafter when he was hired by John Ward as film editor in 1974. He has since worked his way up the ladder and is now Director of Broadcasting for the Vols Network. Kesling is extremely engaged in the community. He serves on the board of directors for Goodwill, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame and was the 2013 United Way Campaign Chairman. He has also been honored by Boys & Girls Clubs of America with a CARE Award and Man to Youth Award.”
