Washington County, Tenn. School Board Chairman Keith Ervin is preparing to call a special meeting to address the needs of Jonesborough K-8.

In May, the Washington County Commission voted against funding for a multi-million dollar renovation and expansion of the Jonesborough schools.

The plan, known as “Scheme 6,” would transform Jonesborough Middle School into a kindergarten through 8th grade school.

Ervin expressed his frustration about the funding disputes to News Channel 11 Friday morning.

“I’ve not given up on Scheme 6, but I don’t know what’s going to be the outcome of it,” he said.

Ervin also said the county commission told him last year there was money for the school district to spend on the project.

That changed in May, when the commission discussed forming a task force to help determine a compromise on renovation plans.

Ervin told News Channel 11 that a date for the meeting is still in the works due to schedules of school board members.

The Washington County Commission’s Budget Committee, which handles budgeting for schools projects, meets again June 12.
