WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- A region-wide alert was issued by law enforcement after two reports of attempted child abductions put a Washington County, Tennessee community on edge.
It’s a story News Channel 11 first brought you Thursday when we learned about two separate incidents that were reported in late September.
According to the Washington County, TN Sheriff’s Office those attempted abductions were both reported in the area of Al Sliger and Mashburn roads, that’s in the Telford community.
When we followed up with the sheriff’s office Friday morning, Lieutenant Randall Wines said they were continuing to follow up on every lead.
“Patrol personnel along with investigators here in the department are chasing down all the leads we can get…we’re doing everything we can,” Wines said.
Lt. Wines added that while they’ve added extra patrols in that area, they are also asking people to remain vigilant.
“If your children are outside playing, keep an eye on them…things can happen very quick,” Wines said.
When dealing with a situation like a reported attempted abduction, Lt. Wines said time is of the essence.
“One of the things I can’t stress the most when something like this happens, people need to get on the phone then to 911, they don’t need to wait five minutes, they don’t need to wait 10 minutes, they don’t need to go to aunt and uncles, grandma’s house, get on the phone to 911, let them know what’s going on that way we are in route,” Lt Wines said.
If you see anything suspicious, investigators are asking you to report it.
