53-year-old man dies after being struck by Amtrak train

A 53-year-old man died after being hit by an Amtrak train Saturday afternoon.

Richmond Police identified the man as 53-year-old Micheal S. Branch of the 2200 block of Chalfont Drive.

This happened around 12:45 p.m., on the 1800 block of Broad Rock Boulevard. 

Police responded for the report of a person struck by a train.

When officers arrived they found Branch Sr. and a scooter.

Investigators believe Branch Sr. was attempting to stand the scooter up when he was struck.

Branch Sr. was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries Saturday evening.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
