The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened overnight in Bluff City.
According to a spokesperson from the office, officers received a call around 10:45 p.m. saying there was a wreck with injuries on Underwood Springs Branch Road.
Officials with the Hickory Tree Volunteer Fire Department, Sullivan County EMS, and the sheriff’s office all responded to the scene. CPR was being performed by people already on the scene and the single person of the vehicle was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Incident Reconstruction Support Team (FIRST) was contacted to investigate the wreck since it involved a serious injury or death. A preliminary investigation has been conducted and it appears that the vehicle, a work van, was traveling on Underwood Springs Branch Road toward Mt. Holston Road when the driver overcorrected and struck a utility pole. Upon striking the utility pole, the van turned over on its top, partially ejecting the driver. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash is still under investigation at this time.
