Local florist profits from last minute Valentine’s Day shoppers

BRISTOL, VA (WJHL)- For the first time a local florist decided to keep her doors open on a Sunday, and she said it paid off.

Janie Brooks, owner of Janie’s Country Gallery Florist in Bristol, Virginia, was open early Sunday morning for Valentine’s Day.

Brooks said this year they had several requests from customers wanting the flowers to be delivered on the holiday.

On top of those requests, she spent the morning preparing last minute bouquets from call in orders.

There were also dozens of people who just walked in as they scrambled to find the perfect gift.

“I’ve had a lot of guys coming in that forgot, or just last minute shoppers. I mean its been profitable for me being here, and I’m doing a service for people and everybody seems to be really happy today when they come in that I’m open,” Brooks said.

Brooks said after seeing business boom this year, she would consider staying open the next time Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday.

She said other than Valentine’s Day, Mothers Day is the their busiest holiday.Copyright WJHL 2016. All rights reserved.
