Local calf strides into JC orthotics office for prosthetics fitting

News

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – A special patient stopped by a Johnson City orthotics and prosthetics office Friday.

“Hero the Calf,” a cow with only two legs stopped by Hanger Orthotics to get fitted to see if he needed new prosthetic legs.

Hero’s mother abandoned him when he was born and he lost his back two legs to frostbite when he was little.

His owner, Kitty Martin, said she had never encountered anything like Hero before.

“I’ve dealt with dogs that have amputation, but no prosthesis,” Martin said. “I said, ‘Well, if nothing else, I can give him compassion and show him a little love.'”

Hero is on his fourth set of prosthetics and is thriving thanks to Martin and the staff at Texas A&M.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
