BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) – 129 people lose their lives everyday to addiction and various organizations gathered in Bristol Saturday to continue to raise awareness on the epidemic in our area.
September is National Recovery Month and today organizations joined for “Lights of Hope” a national event that brings awareness on drug addiction.
The event included live music, speakers who are in recovery and more.
The Sullivan County Anti-Drug Coalition, Bristol Lifestyle Recovery and other local organizations also came out to provide information and resources.
“We have to change the language of our country, we have to change the stigma that has gone with us so much so we can actually help bring it forward, give people the treatment they need, and to get people talking about it around their dinner tables, to their children,” organizer, Rhonda Coffey said.
Coffey said the event is all about “hope” and letting people know it’s okay to reach out for help and there are resources for them.Copyright WJHL 2016. All rights reserved.
