KPD release name of pedestrian killed in crash on East Stone Drive

UPDATE: Kingsport Police Department officers released the name of the pedestrian who was kill in a crash on East Stone Drive Saturday night.

According to a news release, Charles F. Garrett, 56, of Bristol, Tenn., was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a vehicle, driven by Jamie Jason Hodge, 42, of Kingsport.

Garrett was seriously injured and taken to the Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County EMS for treatment, where he later died.

Hodge told police he realized he had hit something in the road, but was not sure what it was. He reportedly drove a short distance, turned around and then realized he had hit Garrett.

Hodge and his passenger were not injured in the crash.

According to the release, police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash due to evidence collected at the scene.

A search warrant was obtained and Hodge gave a blood sample to police that has been submitted to the TBI Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation by the KPD Traffic Unit, according to the release.

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Kingsport Police Department is continuing their investigation into a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

Police say it happened Saturday night in front of Hardees on East Stone Drive around 7:30 p.m.

According to investigators Jamie Jason Hodge was driving in the far right east bond lane when a man was attempting to cross the road.

The pedestrian was transported to Holston Valley medical center, but officials say three hours later he died.

Hodge and his passenger were not injured during the wreck.

Officers believe alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.

The pedestrian’s identity will not be released until after the family has been notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
