KPD investigating body found on Domtar property

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Kingsport Police Department officers confirmed a man was found dead near the intersection of West Center Street and Clinchfield Street Monday.

According to a KPD news release, officers and detectives responded to Domtar Paper Mill, 100 Clinchfield St. in Kingsport, to investigate the body of a deceased individual after the company’s security personnel had spotted a campsite among several large trees and shrubs on the corner of the property.

The man’s body was found under a tarp used as a shelter.

KPD detectives have not positively identified the man, who appears to be in his early 60s. Police also believe the man is homeless.

According to the release, it is unknown how long the man had been camping on the property or when he died.

The man’s death is being investigated as an unattended death and detectives do not suspect foul play.

The man’s body has been sent to ETSU Quillen College of Medicine’s Forensic Pathology Department for an autopsy and positive identification.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
