BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) – A Sears Holdings representative confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the Kmart store on West State Street in Bristol, Tenn. would be closing in early August.
According to Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications of Sears Holdings, said the store, located at 2854 W. State St., will remain open for customers until then and will begin its liquidation sale on May 19.
“Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model,” Riefs said.
The number of associates at the West State Street Kmart was not available, but according to Riefs associates are eligible to receive severance and have an opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.
According to the Riefs, more of the associates are part-time/hourly employees.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
