KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – 3D printing is now available to residents in the Model City. A few weeks ago, Kingsport Public Library got a 3D printer and a 3D scanner.
“We’re used to content consumption and now we’re getting into content creation,” said Kingsport Public Library Manager Helen Whittaker.
Whittaker told News Channel 11, they found several practical uses for the tools.
“One of our handles on our children’s kitchen broke, so we took the working handle and we made a scan of that and we printed a copy of that with the 3D printer,” said Whittaker.
For a $1 print fee plus 15 cents of filament, Whittaker said library card holders can bring in a print file and trained staff members can start the process.
Whittaker said most jobs will cost less than $5 making it a very accessible and affordable tool.Copyright WJHL 2016. All rights reserved.
