GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL) -Thursday United States District Judge Leon Jordan sentenced Benjamin Shook to life in prison. Shook sparked a multi state, two-week long AMBER Alert in 2015. Investigators said Shook used the internet to lure A 14-year-old girl from her home.
Back in June, Shook admitted to kidnapping the Hawkins County girl. He pleaded guilty to all five federal charges against him including kidnapping, transporting a minor for illegal sexual activity, and failing to register as a sex offender.
We were in the courtroom Thursday for his sentencing, where the judge said this is one of the most serious sentences he has ever given out.
When 42-year-old Shook kidnapped the 14-year-old girl in 2015, he was already a convicted sex offender.
The judge also gave Shook an additional five years for failing to register as a sex offender, that will be served during his life sentence.
Shortly before the kidnapping, Shook had been released from prison after serving a lengthy sentence, according to the Assistant U.S. Attorney.
