Johnson City commissioners deny new contract for Cardinal Park

There won’t be a change of management anytime soon for the Johnson City Cardinals Minor League Baseball team.

‘We were really looking forward to the opportunity to help out not only just the Cardinals but to help out the local fan base as well. At this point, I would say that we are done. There is always opportunity for the future, but we worked tirelessly since last season on this “, said Jeremy Boler, Vice President of Boyd Sports

The Johnson City Sports Foundation has said there isn’t enough funding to make the needed improvements to Cardinal Park, but Mayor Clayton Stout said the city’s run it for years and will continue to in the future.

City Commissioners considered an offer from Boyd Sports LLC to manage the Cardinals… something the Johnson City Sports Foundation has been doing for more than a decade.

The company based in Sevierville offered to invest $400 thousand dollars in improving Cardinal Park, but some Commissioners had problems with specifics on the deal. The vote was two to two, not enough to approve the contract.Copyright 2015 WJHL.  All rights reserved.
