MORRISTOWN (WATE) – A Hamblen County middle school band teacher was suspended without pay and will soon be fired after deputies say he was arrested for sending obscene material to a minor.

John Carter Lawrence, 30, is charged with seven misdemeanor counts of sending obscene material to a minor after officials say he sent graphic photos and a video of himself to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Lawrence has worked as a band teacher at East Ridge and Meadowview middle schools since 2010. School officials say Lawrence was immediately suspended after they learned of the charges and dismissal procedures are underway.

Lawrence was released from jail on $20,000 bond.
