GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Deputies and dispatch in Greene County would like to relieve their phone lines. They have received several different 911 calls about a “body” at a home in the Chuckey Pike area of Greene County.
Detective Sergeant Michelle Holt was standing there when one of the calls came in to the Sheriff’s Department Wednesday morning.
“That’s what we call 33 traffic, lights and sirens, you have to get there right then… we had multiple agencies calling in offering there assistance,” Holt said.
Several deputies were sent to the scene, including Andrew Long, who told us he didn’t know what to expect.
“You get the adrenaline pump, you don’t know what to expect, you don’t know if you are going in there with someone already there,” Long said.
Long, and others would soon find out it was nothing like what they were expecting.
“…we thought it was a dead body, and it ended up being stuffed with straw,” Long said.
The bloody hand prints on the garage door, and body lying in the driveway would end up being part of the home’s Halloween decor.
So what started out as a potentially stressful day for deputies like Long, turned out to be not so bad after all.
“A bad situation that wasn’t, it turned out alright,” Long said.
“We all thought it was funny, it was a good Halloween decoration,” Holt said.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department posted the following message on Facebook Wednesday morning:
ATTENTION EVERYONE!!! For those of you driving on Chuckey Pike in Greene County: THIS IS A HALLOWEEN DECORATION! Do NOT call 911 reporting a dead body. Instead, congratulate the homeowner on a great display.
News Channel 11 obtained a copy of a 911 call to dispatch (transcript below):
Dispatcher: Sheriff’s office.
Caller: Ma’am. I called 911 and they put me through to you. I just came off of Williamson Road off of Chuckey Pike and there is a guy laying up there in his driveway next to the house. There’s two big bloody handprints on the side of the house and it looks to me like he is dead. I don’t know. I didn’t stop. I just came on to work. You might want to send someone out there to check him out.
Sheriff’s department: How long has this been?
Caller: It’s been about five or 10 minutes ago that it happened.
Sheriff’s department: And he’s lying on which road?
Caller: OK, he’s on Chuckey Pike facing Williamson Road…. (in- audible). I don’t know the guy’s name but he’s laying up against the house. I can see them laying up there…
