Grandfather Mountain is offering free admission to federal employees affected by the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The nature park says affected employees and up to six guests can get in for free with proof of federal employment, such as a federal ID or paystub.

“Being next-door neighbors with the Blue Ridge Parkway, we sympathize with the furloughed employees,” said Jesse Pope, executive director and president of the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation. “So, we wish to extend complimentary admission to the park through the duration of the shutdown to all affected federal employees, as a small token of our appreciation.”

Grandfather Mountain is open daily throughout the winter, however, potential guests are encouraged to call 828-733-4337 to confirm the park is open beforehand.
