BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) – Jennifer Rooney had a smile that would fill rooms, a laugh that would echo and she would do anything and everything for you if you needed it.
Around 9:30 a.m., Stryker Martial Arts Academy owner Chris Massie got a phone call that hit too close to home.
Jennifer Rooney’s husband David told Massie that his two kids would not be attending their summer camp Thursday because their mom had been killed in a random shooting early Thursday morning.
Rooney, 44, a newspaper carrier for the Bristol Herald Courier, was killed in the shooting that injured four other people, including a Bristol, Tenn. police officer.
“She was an amazing mother, an amazing family and they just had a very unique family,” Massie said. “They did everything together.”
Massie said Jennifer was the biggest cheerleader of her two children – Grace and Chauncey – and said his heart breaks for their family.
“This is just such a waste,” Massie said. “If that guy who pulled that trigger only knew what he did and the lives that he disrupted.”
Massie said he can only hope people remember Jennifer as an incredible wife, mother and person.
A fund has been set up at Peoples Bank in Bristol for the benefit of Jennifer Rooney. Donations can be accepted at the branch at 101 Linden Square Drive, Bristol, VA.. Donations can also be mailed to that address.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
