SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- A former Sullivan County elementary school will soon transform into apartments for seniors.
Local developer, Jody Stewart, recently bough the former Kingsley Elementary School for $100,000.
The 37,000 sq. foot building that sits in the Bloomingdale community will house approximately 40 units.
Stewart said they will officially close on the property Monday, and he hopes to start demolition on site the very next day.
“These are going to be 55 and above senior apartments, the population is getting older, and they need more places to live. The brick will stay, we want to keep the same community look,” Stewart said.
Stewart said if all goes to plan on the Kingsley project, it would take about a year to complete.
He said he hopes the apartments would be open by Spring 2017.
Stewart said he also has similar plans for Brookside, another former elementary school that sits just minutes away from Kingsley.
Stewart said he purchased the 25,000 sq. foot building for $236,000.
He said it is still under contract but he plans to close on it by the end of the month.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All Rights Reserved.
