KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Federal investigators hope you can help them capture a man connected to at least six bank robberies, including one in Johnson City.

The FBI has published a wanted poster for the man linked to bank robberies in Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama, Illinois, and Florida.

Investigators have also given him the nickname “Traveling Bandit”, according to FBI Knoxville.

So far, the man has been connected to at least six robberies in five states, including one in Johnson City:

  • Friday, December 28 – Capital Bank in Aventura, Florida
  • Wednesday, January 2 – SunTrust Bank in Asheville, North Carolina
  • Friday, January 4 – Mountain Commerce Bank in Johnson City, Tennessee
  • Tuesday, January 8 – US Bank in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee
  • Thursday, January 10 – Trustmark Bank in Prattville, Alabama

His first robbery, according to the FBI, happened near Miami in the suburban city of Aventura back in December. Investigators say he walked into a Capital Bank branch around 3:21 p.m. and demanded money from a bank employee. Customers were in the bank at the time, but no one was hurt.

Authorities have not released any information on how much money the “Traveling Bandit” has taken.

According to the wanted poster, the unknown bank robber is believed to be between 40 and 50 years old and 5’6″ and 5’10” tall. In each of the six robberies, surveillance cameras captured the man wearing a black ball cap. It appears he has changed his facial hair by dying his grey goatee black or another dark color.

The FBI says he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the FBI Knoxville field office at 865-544-0751 or submit a tip online via the FBI’s website.
