Greeneville, TN – You probably know that calcium is important for strong bones and preventing osteoporosis. But did you know that Vitamin D is equally important?
Calcium, a mineral that is vital for proper body function, is stored in the bones. But, the body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium in the first place.
“The two really work together,” said Joanie Scott, a dietitian and certified diabetic educator at Takoma Regional Hospital.
Scott will be guest speaker on Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center. The free event will be held from 10-11 a.m. Reservations are not required.
Scott graduated from Murray State University in Murray, Ky., with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition. She also received a master of medical science degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
