ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL)- An officer has been released from the hospital after being injured during a shooting in Elizabethton Friday.

The TBI is leading the investigation and told News Channel 11 on Saturday Curtis James Duggar is the suspect who died in the shooting.

Officials said an autopsy will be performed on Duggar.

Elizabethton Police Department officials said an officer was shot Friday afternoon in a wooded area near the intersection of Parkway Boulevard and Southside Road.

According to EPD’s Capt.Joy Shoun, the officer was in the area looking for a person wanted on federal warrants around 4:30 p.m., when he found the suspect in the area.

“There was gunfire exchanged and the officer has been wounded and is in stable condition,” said Shoun.

CCSO deputies, Elizabethton Police Department officers, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials, U.S. Marshals, Carter County EMS, as well as Carter County EMA officials responded to the scene.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
