JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL-TV) – There is an easy way to possibly earn money for your school while shopping this tax free weekend and beyond.
The Mall at Johnson City is hosting its 12th annual “Earning for Learning” program. Shoppers can show their day-of receipts at the Guest Services Center and turn their shopping dollars into points for their local schools.
“We allow the customers of The Mall to turn in their receipts that they purchase to the Mall and their receipts can turn into points and their points will go to the school of their choice.”, Mall General Manager Tembra Aldridge said, “And at the end of an 8 week program, those five schools with the most points will earn a cumulative of $25,000.”
Every school in the Tri-Cities area is eligible to participate in the contest. One point is awarded for each dollar spent to the school of the shopper’s choice. There are several ways to earn double or even triple points.
“On Mondays and Tuesdays, we have double points, so if it is a Monday or Tuesday and you come in and buy something, your points are automatically going to double.”, Aldridge said, “We will advertise certain stores throughout the promotion that if you shop in that store, you’ll get double points, also anytime throughout the promotion that you buy a gift card, it turns into triple points, so there is all kinds of ways that you can win a lot of money for your school.”
The school with the most points gets $10,000 and it works down to $1,500 for the fifth place school. Those schools and parents of students that have participated over the years have learned how to “work the rules” over the years during this program.
“The schools kind of learn how to play the game, and so some of them have even bought washing machines and that sort of thing with Mall gift cards just so that they can get more points that way.”, Aldridge said.
The program runs from July 29 thru Sept. 18. For more information about “Earning for Learning” at The Mall at Johnson City, please call (423) 282-5312 or visit www.mallatjohnsoncity.com.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
