TRI-CITIES, TN/VA (WJHL)- Black Friday deals are one week away but as you start checking off your Christmas shopping list small business owners in our region are hoping shoppers remember to shop locally on ‘Small Business Saturday’.
The annual shopping event will be Saturday November 26th and is a way to emphasize the importance of shopping at local businesses which not only helps keep tax dollars stay locally but also means helping your community prosper during the season of giving. Many local shops will be offering extended hours and holiday specials in order to accommodate more shoppers.
Johnson City’s Downtown Development Manager Dianna Cantler said, “We really just encourage people, if you can, shop locally. Sometimes you may not find what you’re looking for but you really do help out your neighbor, your community and your state when those sales tax dollars stay here in the community.”
Cantler says while Small Business Saturday can increase awareness of the importance of shopping local, it is great to remember to support small businesses year-round.
“Instead of spending your money online or going to a big box store… Share a little bit of the Christmas spirit with your neighbor,” said Cantler.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
