PORTSMOUTH, VA (WAVY) — Detectives are investigating the death of a 1-year-old Portsmouth boy as a homicide, police confirmed Wednesday.
According to police, officers responded to a call on Dec. 26 with reports of a 1-year-one in the 5100 block of George Washington Highway who was not breathing. The mother of the child had called in to dispatchers, police say.
When units arrived, they found the child unresponsive, and transported him to Maryview Hospital.
The child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives contacted Child Protective Services, who found no records of any previous investigations regarding the child and his parents. On Dec. 29, Detectives were informed by the medical examiners that the child’s death was a homicide.
No arrests have been made in this case.
