JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL)- High school cadets were not in short supply as Daniel Boone High School held its 19th Annual Invitational Drill Meet, on Saturday.

Daniel Boone hosted 22 different schools from 6 different states for the annual event. The various drill teams were able to compete in different categories with some schools opting to participate in an exhibition.

Daniel Boone’s JROTC cadets organized and ran the entire drill meet, on their own. They did, however, leave the judging up to the professionals.

Retired Marine Corps Major, Steve Sessis, is the senior Marine instructor for Daniel Boone High School and said this meet is a growing experience for both those competing and those organizing the meet.

He said, “The students learn personal discipline, they learn team ethic, they learn to give of themselves to a cause greater than themselves and they’re learning to sacrifice a little bit in order to be part of a team.”

Daniel Boone’s JROTC will soon also get a chance to show their skills, as they will be competing in the Marine Corps Service Championships in Anniston, Alabama in February.Copyright 2015 WJHL. All rights reserved.
