MARION, Va. (WJHL) — Authorities are investigating a shooting Friday evening in Marion.
Marion police officers and Smyth County deputies responded to a report of gunshots at a business on North Main Street around 6 p.m., according to town spokesperson Ken Heath.
Officers found one victim near Mountain Empire Credit Union and “quickly” located and arrested a suspect, identified as Michael Tag Milligan, 36 of Marion.

The victim was taken to Smyth County Community Hospital and then Bristol Regional Medical Center where he is in “stable condition,” according to Heath.
Police have charged Milligan with maliciously shooting into an occupied motor vehicle, discharging a firearm in a public place, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Heath. He is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon.
“The Marion Police Department and the Town of Marion expressed their sincere appreciation to the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in serving our community and keeping our citizens safe with today’s incident,” Police Chief John Clair said in a release.
Additional charges may be filed against Milligan.
